LGBT Self Organised Group
Out in UNISON Bolton
support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender members (LGBT).
Workers face prejudice and discrimination when seeking work and once they are in a job. Every trade unionist has a responsibility to challenge this discrimination. It is part of UNISON’s core agenda for workers’ rights.
UNISON is an organisation that does not allow homophobia, biphobia or transphobia and actively campaigns for laws to be changed with regards to the provision of services to LGBT people.
Support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender members:
The UNISON Bolton Metro Branch LGBT Self Organised Group (SOG) is a group where members who self identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a supportive environment.
The group meets at least four times a year and take part in regional events/meetings and the UNISON National LGBT Conference on an annual basis. The group works together to prioritise areas of work, identify development needs and provide support and networking opportunities. New members are always welcome and encouraged to take an active role in running the group.
Members of the LGBT Self Organised Group will be work with the branch Equalities Officer to produce a quarterly Equalities Bulletin which will highlight inequalities and how UNISON Bolton Branch are working to campaign on equality issues include those of LGBT members. Our next edition is planned for the autumn term and will be made available on this website.
In addition UNISON national office produces a quarterly Out in Unison Newsletter on LGBT equality in UNISON.
The LGBT Convenor can offer individual support for those members who are experiencing a workplace problem or need general support on an LGBT issue see the contact details below.

Unison Disabled Members Group
This is a reminder to any Unison member who has to cope with any kind of medical condition or disability as well as their normal job.
There is a group of members who meet regularly to try to address any measures which could be taken to make life easier for anyone who needs a degree of help. It is not a sign of weakness to admit the existance of a condition; rather it is a positive move to find a solution from which others could also benefit.
There are many kinds of disability - slight hearing loss as well as deafness, colour blindness, epilepsy, "womens' problems', arthritis, eczma & psorisis, thyroid disorders and many others too numerous to mention.
If there is anything at all which makes your life that bit more difficult, perhaps there is some help out there which will benefit you.
Perhaps you don't need any help but would like to be able to talk to others in an understanding, confidential environment.
Facility time is available to attend the meetings which are held in the Town Hall at lunchtime every two months .
Please contact Branch Office who will put you in touch with a member of the group for more information.
All contact will be treated with the strictest confidence.
